WHAT TO EXPECT
Mean Girls Jr. is a musical adaptation of the hit 2004 film Mean Girls, tailored for young performers in grades 6-12. The show follows the story of Cady Heron, a teenager who moves to the United States after living in Africa and gets introduced to the complex social dynamics of high school. She quickly becomes entangled with a group of popular girls known as "The Plastics," led by the manipulative Regina George. As Cady navigates the challenges of fitting in, she must decide whether to compromise her values or stay true to herself. Filled with catchy songs, comedic moments, and relatable themes of friendship and self-identity, Mean Girls Jr. is a fun, high-energy show that explores the impact of social pressures and the importance of kindness.
AUDITION DETAILS
Students in grades 6-12 are invited to audition for our youth musical productions. To sign up, simply follow the registration link provided below. Auditioning is completely free, but if your child is selected for a role, tuition fees will apply to cover participation in the production. For more details on these fees, please see the information provided below.
When you register to audition you will be given several time slot options to choose from. The time slot you select will include several other participants, so your audition will not be private. Our youth auditions are not private because we believe in fostering a supportive and collaborative environment. Auditioning with several other participants allows performers to learn from one another, gain inspiration, and build confidence by performing in front of peers. This open format encourages camaraderie among participants and helps everyone feel more comfortable on stage, making the audition process a positive and educational experience for all.
Vocal Audition: Select a song from a Broadway musical or movie (not from Mean Girls). Your audition should be between 60-90 seconds, using an instrumental backing track (no a cappella). If you are auditioning for Cady, Janice, Damian, Regina, Gretchen, Karen, Samuel, or Kevin, you may also be asked to sing a solo segment from one of that character's songs.
Dance Audition: After the vocal auditions, all students will participate in a dance portion. Even if you don’t consider yourself a dancer, the artistic team just wants to see how you move.
Cold Read: We will provide sides (scenes) for various characters. Participants will be paired up and asked to read together. This will allow the artistic team to see how you interpret a scene, interact with a partner, and bring the characters to life.
AUDITIONS: APRIL 19, 2025
9AM - 4PM
At PCPA, we single cast our shows with understudies rather than double casting. This allows for a more focused and cohesive rehearsal experience, giving each cast member the chance to fully develop their character and skills. The outcome is a stronger, more polished production.
Because we single cast our shows, auditions are highly competitive. It is essential that you prepare thoroughly for your audition in advance.
We do not offer roles for students to accept or decline after casting. On your audition form, you will be asked if you’re willing to accept any role, including ensemble. If you answer "yes," you are open to playing any part. If you answer "no," you should specify the roles you are willing to play. If you answer no and we do not cast you in the roles you specified then you will NOT be considered for any other roles and will NOT be cast in the show.
Once the cast list is posted, full commitment is expected. If you drop out after being cast, it will affect your future eligibility for auditions.
PARTICIPATION COMMITMENT
STUDENT COMMITMENT
FINANCIAL COMMITMENT
Please note that not all cast members will be required to attend every rehearsal, and the rehearsal schedule may vary depending on the production.
Participants in PCPA productions are expected to fully commit to the rehearsal and performance process. This includes attending all scheduled rehearsals and being actively involved in the preparation for the show. To ensure a smooth production, any potential conflicts—like family events or special occasions—must be disclosed during the audition process on a conflict form. Once auditions are complete, no additional conflicts can be added.
Cast members are responsible for participating fully in both pre-show preparations and live performances, contributing to the overall success of the production. Each participant is expected to demonstrate dedication, punctuality, and a positive attitude throughout the rehearsal period, as this fosters a focused and collaborative environment for everyone involved. This level of commitment ensures that every youth cast member can develop their skills and contribute meaningfully to the final production, resulting in a polished and high-quality show.
PARENT COMMITMENT
Volunteering is a key part of the PCPA experience! Each family is required to contribute at least 10+ hours of volunteer work across pre-show and show teams. If you cannot meet this requirement, you may choose to pay an additional fee or arrange for a friend or family member (21 or older) to volunteer on your behalf.
Parent Roles: There are many ways parents can help, including in areas such as costumes, props, sets, technical support (lighting, sound), makeup, concessions, backstage, photography, and more.
In addition, parents must attend two mandatory meetings: one at the start of the season and another midway through the rehearsal period.
Rehearsal Commitments: Parents are also responsible for ensuring that their child attends all scheduled rehearsals, with no added conflicts after auditions. Any conflicts, such as birthdays or family events, must be noted on the conflict form at the time of the audition.
Audition Fee: Auditioning is free, but if you are cast, the following tuition applies:
$195 with a 10+ hour parent volunteer requirement ($175 for additional siblings)
This tuition covers licensing fees, production costs, and includes a show t-shirt for your child. Additional t-shirts can be purchased by family and friends.
Opt-Out Volunteer Fee: We greatly value the contributions of our parent volunteers, and there are no additional fees for those who fulfill the 10+ hour volunteer commitment. However, we understand that not all families can meet this requirement. For those unable to volunteer, we offer an opt-out option with an additional fee to help us cover the costs of hiring necessary support personnel.
$150 ($130 for additional siblings)
Costume Costs: While most costumes are provided, students may need to supply personal items such as socks, shoes, undergarments, and occasionally basic clothing like leggings or t-shirts.
A NOTE ABOUT REHEARSAL
Rehearsals are an essential part of creating a successful production, and they often involve periods of waiting and practicing patience. Cast members are expected to remain at rehearsal for the entire time they are called, even if they have free moments between scenes or activities.
If you find yourself with downtime during rehearsal, we encourage you to stay engaged and contribute by asking, “What can I do, and how can I help?” Whether it’s assisting with props, helping a fellow cast member rehearse, or preparing for your next scene, your support and involvement are crucial to the team’s success.
Thank you for your dedication and teamwork—it makes all the difference!
